INTRODUCTION CONTINUING EDUCATION  

brief history

On May 18, 1979, a group of accountants met to discuss the formation of a professional association called AFAI. Attending and forming the nucleus of the steering committee were Klaus H. Buntua, Andres C. Urcia, Eddie Sandoval, Nelly P.Payos, Reynaldo P. Mariano, Jose Vicor De Ortube, Julie Torres, Leon C. Noriestaq, Roger Albuero, Art Umayam, Cesar A. Ametin and Cesar A. Toledo. Also attending were Ben Cube, Esquire, acting as a legal counsel and Dr. Alex P. Yadao, then the President of the Philippine Heritage Federation.

AFAI subsequently held a general membership meeting in which it ratified its by-laws, elected the officers and oulined its important activities.

The organization was reincorporated on March 16, 2007 and renamed as Filipino American Institute of Accountants of Metro D.C. (FAIA).

The Filipino American Institute of Accountants, Metro DC Inc. (FAIA) is a professional organization whose membership is composed of Accountants in the Metropolitan area.

FAIA is a 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to provide the highest quality instruction to the public on subjects useful to the individual and beneficial to the community.

Objectives:

  1. Provide the highest quality continuing education instruction to all members of the accounting profession and general public in the areas of:

    2. Taxation
    3. Law
    4. Entrepreneurship
    5. Management
    6. Personal Consumer Finance
    7. Work-Place Financial Education
  2. Pro-Bono Tax Preparation/Educational Services to Senior Citizens
  3. Receive and Administer Funds For Scholarship and Charitable purposes
