INITIAL PUBLIC COURSE OFFERINGS
Delinquent Taxpayers Education Clinic
A two to three hour course designed to educate nonfiler citizen taxpayers on their responsibilities with respect to filing a federal income tax return. The course will cover such topics as consequences of not filing, suggestions for completing late-filed tax returns, civil penalties, voluntary filing to minimize the chances of a criminal investigation, filing a return when you can’t pay what you own, the taxpayer’s bill of rights, budgeting and making estimated tax payments.
Understanding Social Security, Medicare and Pensions
A two to three hour course designed to provide an overview of social security law, eligibility and benefits. Rate schedules and a history of social security system will be provided. Specific topics will include: taxability of benefits, eligibility and coverage, self-employment, computing benefits disability claims/appeals, Medicare procedures, Medicare managed care plans and medigap insurance.
Rethinking The Rules of Financial Accounting
A two to three hour course that examines how and why so many of the rules of financial accounting have strayed so far from reality, and provides specific recommendations on what must be done to restore balance, accountability and public trust to both the accounting profession and its end product. This course will cover such areas as controversial concepts, remedies, recent developments and defects of financial statements.
Retirement Vehicles, Rules and Strategies
A two to three hour course that will teach the public about different retirement vehicles and strategies. Topics include: types of retirement vehicles, borrowing money from your plan, inherited accounts, dividing a plan at divorce, required distributions, distributions to heirs and pre-retirement and post retirement tax strategies.
